TREVOR LLOYD DEAD
Well-known Auckland Artist CONTRIBUTOR TO NEWSPAPERS After 34 years of sketching and oartooning the death has o*ccurred of the Auckland artist Mr. Trevor Lloyd at his home, Clive road, Epsom. Mr. Lloyd was entirely self-taught and was well known throughout the Dominion for the use he made of the Maori as a source. of fun. As a sketch artist perhaps his best-known work was the etching of tho old windmill in Symonds street. One of his most renowncd works as a cartoonist appeared in September, 1911, before the general election.. The drawing was entitled ''Will She Weather lt?" After the poll Mr. Lloyd was able to publish a second cartoon showing the shipWTeck. Mr Lloyd was born at Silverdale and spont the whole of his life in the Auckland province. Many of his drawings dealt with native flora and fauna, especially parakeets, kingfishers and other birds. In the 90's, |after the death of his father, ho moved to Auckland and set out to earn a liy^ag by his art. Hir' first commission was to | illustrate stories and articles in the j New Zealand Magazino. For a time j he contributed to the New Zealand j Graphic, and in 1903 joined the staff | of tho Weekly Ncws. • Mr Lloyd is survived by his wife ! and two daughters, Misses Constance ; and Olive Lloyd, both of "whom are j well-known New Zealand etchers.
