F, Feron, speaking in St. Mattliew's Cburcb, St. Albans, Christchurch, wliero there was a parade of returned soldiers. "Some think a good Christian is sojnething dressed all in black, with a specially long face on Sundays,'' he said. "Not a bit of it. A party of thirteen bowlers from the Nelson Bowling Club, who have been playing matclies in Australia, returned by the Awatea. In the course of their trip they visited Sydney and Queensland. "There are to my mind two main reasous for the apparent disregard of the elementary principles of safe driving," says Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in an articl© in the magazine the "Honorary Magistrate." "One is that too many people drive as they feel like driving rather than with a correct knowledge of how they should drive. The other is that the vast majority of drivers travel thousands of miles without serious accident, and do not realise that their immunity has been due more to good fortune than to careful and skilful driving." "I can't think of the word 'Fmpire' without thinking of something nasty," said the Rev. J. F. Feron, speaking to a congregation containing a parade of returned soldiers in St. Matthew's Oliurch, St. Albans. "There is selfisbness, money-grubbing, and all that is bad. 1 see nothing right, whatever empire I think of, looking back through all the ages. But what Christ is calling us to is a Kingdom, a Kingdom where there is righteousness, purity, mercy. and justice. I wish we could think more of that Kingdom than of these others. People are inclined to sit back and forget the greater fight which all good Christians ar© obliged to jvage. What is heeded for that Kingdom is a line man, meutally aud pliysically, aud a fine mau spiritually uuder thc hands of God."
