PORT AHURIRI TOWNSWOMEN MEET
The September meeting of the Port Ahuriri Townswomen 's Guild was held in St. Andrew's Hall, Mrs. Sutherland being in the chair. There \vas a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the Ode, followed by the Aspirations. Apologies were received from Mesdames Beech, Hansen and Veal. One new member was enrolled. Lengthy eonference and other business was dealt with, during which it was agreed that a letter be sent to tho Port Ahuriri Progressive Association about the South Pond rubbish duoip. The re.mainder of the programme was devoted to music and play-reading, Mrs. Fieldhouse delighting all with her j songs, "I Sing a Song to Suit the Day" and "Moireen." A play-reading, "Snowed Up with the Duchcss,'' capahly read by Mesdames Heath, Sutherland, Mitchell and Morrison, raised many a laugh. Two further songs by 'Mrs. Fieldhouse, "Break 0' Day," and "The Little Apple Tree," were greatly appreciated. The ilnal item, "Sir Percy's Cuddle," was well received. Those taking part were: Mesdames McRae, Wcst, McCarthy, Morrison and. Brodie. The old photograph competition was won by Mrs. McCarthy. The prize for the best bowl of of bulbs, kindly judged by Mrs. R. Holt (Napier), went to Mrs. McCarthy, Mrs. Dorset sccuring second placo and Mrs. Cameron third. A special prize was donated by Mrs. Holt for the best vase of mixed flowers for the October meeting.
