Two Fishermen Have Unenviable Experience • LAUNCH WRECKED

NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. A miraculous escape from death was experienced by two New Plymontb fishermen, Messrs A. E. interman and J. Goodwin, when the launeh Sicily was wrecked in a westerJy gale on the Waitara beach early this morning. The launch, which caused anxiety by its non-return to New Plymouth yesterday, was heading for port last night and when about four miles off Waitara a particulariy heavy sea was shipped, whieh swept the buhvarks and all ioose httings away and tangled tho anclior rope about the propeller. While the rope was being eleared a second sea was shipped, which tore the engine from its f'rame and took away the rudder. The helpless craft was swept in tovvards share and narrowly missed destruction on the Waitara river mole. Slie was carried broadside through the breakers to the only sandy piece of beach in the vicinity. She was beached at 1.30 a.m.
