Auckland Transport Board's insurances M0TI0N OF PROTEST LOST

AUCKLAND, Last Night. c The Auckland Transport Board's fire and lideiity insurances will be handled by the State Eire and Accident Insurance Department and not by private local companies (except rc-insurance) as the result of a deeision mado in committee and announced by the chairman. the Hon. H. G. II. Mason, at to-days* meeting of the board. Mr J. A. C. Allum strongly protested and moved that the matter should be referred back to a committee of the whole board. He said it was a eapricious action. "The public is getting a little tired of this talk of State, State, State all the time. I hold that the State should not be given this business simply because it is tho . State," he added. He said that the insurance business at present was shared by 39 local companies. "Mr. H. A. Anderson supported the protest. The Hon. F. Lark and Mr. Mason emphasised the savings which the establishment of the State Insurance Office had brought about-. Mr Allum 's motion was lost.
