AUCKLAND, Last Night. Tho two Auckland nominees for Bkodes Scholarships, chosen to-day by the Professorial Board of the Uuiversity College, aro Messrs. Georgo Lawrence Hogben, B.A., and Dgrcy Walker. The former attended Auckland Grammar Se.kool. Mr. Walker came from the Palmerston North High School. Mr Darcy Walker is the seeond pupll of tbe Palmerston North Boys' Hig* •School to be nominated for seloction us a Bhodes scholar, the flrst being MrJ Guthrie Wilson, who was selocted t>> Vietoiia College in 19(53. Mr Walker received his primary education at tlie ltaiigiolu School and entered the Boys' High School in Palmerston North "in 1929 at tho age of 11 years. He rr-k mamed at the school until 1934. He passed tho matriculation and medic.al preliminary examinations in 1931 and was awarded a higher leaving cerlificate in 1934. In the same year he gained a junior university scholan-hip, being placed seeond on tho list for Ihe Dominion. He was also dux of tiro school and a prcfect. Durirtg the timo he was at tbe school he took a general interest in all outdoo'r activilies. In 1933 he began a science degreo course at tho Auckland University College. At the prcsent time he is sec.retary of the Studeuts' Association of tbe college, having recently been elected uuopposed, and a mernber of tho seeond Bugby flfteen. - Mr G. L. Hogben was nominated by the Auckland TJniversily College last year, but on that occasion he f'ailed to win a scliolarship.
