Beeause other local bodies were obtaining money from the Government to provide work, . members considered that they should not be a party to what they described as being "an orgy of spendina." Following a diseussion it was dccided that a protest be forwarded to the Departuient,* to be drafted by the chairman, ALr E. B. Logan, and the clerk Mr W. J. O'Connell. In it due regard is to be given for the good work earried out, but it is to be pointed out tliat importanfc and remunerative works some distance from the towns were being igaiored.
