Revision of tho trade agreement between Australia and Japan, with a posgibje reduction of the amount of Japanese imports into Australia, will probably be considered by the Fedcral Ministry this weok, in view of Japan 'a failnre to enter the wool market thus far this season. To honour the agreement, Japtn must buy from Australia half a million bales before the end of June of next year. From Tokio it is reported that the leading economic magazine, Diamond, says that the Government 's new pooJ policy is londing optimism to the iudustry in Manchukuo, where it is planned to reach 15,000,000 sheep iu 35 vears te supply one-third of Japan's requirenxents, and in Japan, wheTO sheep flocks are mcreasing rapidly, though there were onJy 61,000 in 1936. Moanwhilc, it is expected that the Government will cut wool imports by one-half and insist on a mixture of 20 per cent. stable fibre and raise the consumption tax on ull wool fabrics.
