FOUND DROWNED

Inquest Into Seaman's Death A verdict that Alexander Marshall was found drowned in the sea .on August 4, their being no evidence to show how the body got into the water, was given by the Coroner, Mr. A. E. Bedford, J.P., at an inquest held this morning in Napier. Sorgoant G. F. Bonisclr conducted tho inquiry aud Mr. H. B. Lusk appeared on bohalf of the Union Steaax Ship Co. Captain Arnos Taylor, oi' tho dredgcr Hapai, gavo evjdence of the discovery of the body. . The boatswain of the vessel, John Moar, said that on thq night of the vessel 's departure deceased had been drinkiug, but he was not drunk. He persisted in going ashore when told not to, aud when he did not report for duty a search was made for him. He could not be found and a substitute sailed in his place. Captain Alexander McLachlan, assistant harbour-master at Napier, said that the gangway of the Kaimai was placed amidships on the bridge deck, was correctly lighted, and had the nets underneath. Witness was of the opiniqn that the body had entered thq water not far from where it was found, on the way deceased would take to get back to his ship. The opinion that death was due to drowning was given by Dr. G. E. Waterwortli. There were no marks of yiolonc®,, " •
