FORTNIGHTLY PAY
County Council Difficulties "Some of the" legislation that hab gone through is : going to .make ( things extremely difficult for the council, '' said- Mr. F. B. Logan; chairnian, at to-day's meeting of the Hawke's Bay County Council when the N.Z. Municipa! and 'General Workers' Unioii advised that pay was to be made f ortnightly, and that travelling time must be deeided upon. "Paying the men fortnightly will greatly inconvenience the office and myself. I Suppose I will have to fall into line and do the best I can. Qur employees are a good lot, and 'I feel that they will continue to treat the council well .with. their increased wages and shorter hours." In regard to travelling time, 'said Mr. Logan, the engineer will have to keep an ; eye on it and await deyelopments. The council will not be in a position to make further payments in respeet of travelling time as we havo not budgeted for it this year, otherwiso wc might bo landed in a very awkward position. • The council deeided that in regard to travelling timo to await developments. Arising out of this matter the Masterton County Council' advised that it was not -making any allowanco for travelling timo.
