GARDNER WINS AGAIN Percival Sets Speed Record Of 238.7 M.P.H. PLACED MEN SECONDS APART

(Received 13, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 11. The King's Cup air-race was won by Gardner, who had flown from Dubiin at an estimated average speed of 240 miles an hour. Brigadier-General A. G. Lewin, flying a Miles-Whitney, was seeond, Captain Percival third, and A. V.' Harvey, flying a Miles-Whitney, fourth. * Gardned was also last year's winner. He averaged 233.7 miles an hour and figured in one of the closest finishes to a Kmg's Cup. He, with Captain Percival and Waller, was among the hack-markers, leaTing Dubiin nearly two hours behind the long-handicapped machines. swooped . past the" winning-post at a terrific speed' when Brigadier-General Lewin, who is 63 years of age, and was fljing his first King's Cup race, and Laivey emerged from the clouds. , Lewin was only seconds ahead of Karvey, who appeared certain for third plece when, Captain Pereival came down in a fierce xush, beating Harvey on the post. Captain Percival averaged 23817 miles an hour — a record for the contest. Schricber finished sixth with a speed of 171 miles an hcur, and Waller was 12th, with a speed of 213 miles an hour. Broadbent xetire'd after a mishap to a retracting undercafriage. Captain Percival left Dubiin 3 4 seconds after Gardner ahd finished at Hatfield only 153 seconds. behind him.
