Basketball in this country is looked upon more or less as the national sport for girls and women, and except for a few teams in. the mtiin cities it is not a game played by the male sex. However, the sport is played with considerable enthusiasm m America by men and boys, though the game has been adapted by modifieation and alterations of the rules to allow for more sweeping movements and faster play. An-indication of the type of basketball played in America was provided in Hastings last evening, wnen a team of America Mormon Elders, who are touring New Zealand, played the Regirnental Club in the Drill Hall. The visitors decided to form a basketball team in Auckland, and wherever they visit they seek a game, and members said last evening that they had found New Zealanders very quick on the "uptake," and apt pnpils.
