KING'S CUP FLYERS Onlookers See Man Hurled From Plane SPEED PRIZE T0 PERCIVAL*

(Eeceived 11, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 10. In the King's Cup air-race the Australian Captain W. E. Percival won £200 for the fastest time in tbe bighpowered class at tbe conclusion of th« first day's flight. Captain Percival speed was 225.2 miles an hour, a record for the contest. Some of the plane3 were badly buffeted. The 18 leaders will fly the linai stage tc London via Carlisle and Bristol to-morrow. Wing-Commander E. G. Hilton, flying a Miles Falcon> and accompamed Wing-Commander Percy Sherran, crashed at Scarborough on the first stage to Newcastle. Both were killed. An eye-witness says that a squall caught Wing-Commander Hilton 's plane and lifted it up 50 f eet, whirling it round. The speetatoin wire horror^ stricken when a man was throitn thToagh the roof of the cockpit, somersaulted in the air and fell to the roof of a disused cafe. The other occupant's decapitated body was found shattered in the cock*» pit. Two other competitors made forced landings. Some of the players engaged in tho crieket match between New Zealand and Leveson-Gower's team were upectatow of the fatal crash.
