State Purchase In Wellington

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Arrangements have been completed for the purchase of the Hotel Arcadia, Wellington, by the Government. The purchasiug departaient is the State Fire Insurance and tho vendor the present owner of the property, who is a Temuka resident. The date of taking over the hotel remains iudeiinite. Tho Hotel Arcadia is a well-known building at the junction of Stout street and Lambton Quay and stauds on a triangular block of land with a 68feet frontago by 120-feet depth. It has been mado quite clear that the acquisition of the hotel does not mean ita cnd as a place of lodging. The department has secured the freehold as a step towards the ultimate dovelopment of Ihe bloek to consolidate Government property in the valuable mid-city area. There is no present intention of interfering with the hotel building.
