WILL QUIST TURN PRO?

PROMOTERS AFTER HIM BIG MONEY AVAILABLE When Adrian Quist returned to Adelaide by the Mooltan one of the first questions asked by his inquisitive friends, and also members of the Press, was "Have you had any offers to turn professional?" American promoters are after the young South Australian who would still be unofficially ranked No. 3 player in the world, and English critics contend that Quist is the outstanding international doubles player," writes the Adelaide correspondent of' the Sydney Referee. Quist is spectacular, and just the type to provide attractive exhibitions with leading professionals, such as Ellsworth Vines and Perry. It has been stated that Fred. Perry made £30,000 in his first year as a professional — and probably no one will ever know what he has made in royalties and exhibition appearances. Quist should be wOrth, on a conservative estimate, £10,000 a year for exhibition matches. And there would be other revenue to augment his income. It is believed in Adelaide that Quist will not turn professional until he has had a shot at Budge and von Cramm in the Australian championships, to be played in Adelaide next February. If, in opposition to the world No. 1 and 2 amateurs, he gains the Australian national title, his value to the promoters probably would be increased by 50 per cent. Mr. Karl Quist, of Adelaide, Adrian's father, states that the last news he had from his son was that he was feeling very fit, and now recovered his normal weight, and was looking forward to a successful Austra'lian season. Quist's illness abroad was most unfortunate for Australia and himself, but it may have advantages because he has had his first rest from tennis for several years, and the badly needed mental relaxation from the game.
