At a meeting in Napier between ro. presentatives oi tho Napier Citizens1 Band, Hastings Citizens' Band and Tecbnical Memorial Band, it was decided to foriu an association to be called the Hawke's Bay Brass Bands' Association. The necessity for more co-operation among the three bands, in order to iif't the bands musically and tinancially, was stressed, it being stated that at present the bands were not receiving sufficient remuneration. A meeting of the new association has been called for the purpose of electing olficers. Tho combined bands propose to give a massed band concert eitber in Hastings or Napier as an inaugural event. Referee's Diagnosis was Wrong. fcspectators at the representative Rugby match in Hastings yesterday al'ternoon were afforded more than one laugh, but tlie prize joke of the afternoon was the l'alse aiarm for tho stretclier. Tho St. Jolin Ambulance brigado wero already attending a case wben a further sumtnons was issued, and tliis was f'ollowed with a call for Lho doctor. The referee "diaguosed" the case as a i'ractured ankle and called tho stretclier, but by the time tlie stretcher-bearers arrived on the scene the "case" was already participating in the play which had been resumed. However, apart l'rom this false alarm tlie brigadesmen spent an exceptionally busy time, ten calls being made upon their free services, mainly for twisted knee joints and ankles.
