"INCIDENT" IN GAME DISCUSSED

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The fortnightly meeting of the management conmiittee of the Ceutral Hawke's Bay Rugby Sub-Union was held in Waipukurau to-night, there being present: Messrs A. L. McCormiek (chairinan), C. M. Williamson (secretary), R. S. Eicketts (treasurer), AV. Cuthbertson, W. Phillips, E. G. Kedgley, T. Nicholl, C. A. Gallagher, A. W. l-'ersons-, aad J. Ferguson. I11 regaid to the fund-raising eft'ort m respect of the mortgage of £1500 on Central Park, Waipukurau, the secretary stated that on the amouut of £1200 raised in connection with the recent Eugby Queen Carnivol there would be a reduction of £175 in terms of the conditional oft'er of the Hawke's Ba.y Eugby Union. Foliowing upon fui-ther remarks by the committee, it was decided on the motion of Mr Cuthbertson, seconded by Mr Nicholl, that a sub-committee con.sisting of the chairman, treasurer, secietary and Mr Parsons, be appointed to interview the Hawke's Bay Union m regard to a proposed linancial assurance in respect of next year's" operations. Mr Parsons mentioned that as the resuit of au eft'ort to help the candidature of the Porangahau (^uee^ a sum of £146 had been raised from tho ] sale of donated sheep. He urged that the fortlicomiug 111atch.es for the Central Park Ckallenge Cup by the Porangahau Club take place at Porangahau. fcSoveral clu,b representatives expressed willingness to endeavour to arrange toi games ut Porangahau. The venue of the Otane challenge match was Jeft to the chairman, secretary and Mr Parsons 'to linalise, Mx l'hillips being the mover and Mr Fergus,son seconuer. Mr Cuthbertson announced his inten tion of giving notice of motion as to the exclusion in future of the winners of tho sunior championship from the Central 1'ark Challenge Cup sencs. Ofl'exices Dealt With iu regard to a complamt lodged by a referee (Mr C. H. Woodward) against a Takapau player in respect of udeged striking tactics in a lixture against Porangahau on Saturday, the referee said he liad ordered the oEender oii the field. At this stage tne' players were very keeniy worked up. The trouble had occurred iu a ruck. Iu the first half the game had been quite friendly. A second complaint was lodged by the sarne referee against a 'Takapau "barracker" for using bad language and encouraging rough play. This oftender had continued to indulge in swearing and had been abusive to tho complamant. He had told the referee that he (Mr Woodward) had won the match for Porangahau. The alleged olfcnding pJayer atteuded the meeting and explained that ho had been angered by a certain "hold," which he now thought to 'be jiccidenta). i Both parties shook hauds after the ! match. He did not think it was the player ijeported as hit that he had struelc with a fist. There had been iiq untoward incidents previously. Mr Parsons stated that in his opinion the spectator referred to by tho referee had by his remarks contributed to the exhibition of ill-feeling. Otherwisc relatiuns had been friendly. Mr Cuthbertson stated that he had a favourable opiniou as to tho charactei of the oft'ending player. It was his opinion that the spectator concerned had shown more partiality as a barracker after the striking incident. Mr Phillips pointed out that the referee had no optkm but to order tno pJayer oft in view of what he had seen, He did not doubt the identity of tho jlayer who had received tho alleged blow. On the motion of Mr Eieketts, seconded by Mr Nichol, it was proposed that the player concerned be cautioned. Mr Phillips proposed as an amondinent that the player be stood down for two regular playmg days next year. This was seconded by Mr Kedgley. Messrs Phillips, Kedgley, Ferguson and Williams voted for the amendment, and .Messrs Parsons. Nichol and Eicketts against. Other inembers (one excluded as an interested representative) did not vote but the chairman stated tent to approved of the amendment. Tho uioLion was carned unanimously. / Tlianks ExpresscL Oji tiie motion of Mr Cuthbertson. seconded by Mr Kedgley, it was resoived that a letter of thankp be forwardcd to each of the geeretaries for the respectivc Carnfval Queen committees, it was decided to write to the Central Hawke's Bay branch of the New Zealand Educational Association expre&sujg satisfaetion as to the part played by the district representatives in the Eoss Shield tournament held in Hastings. The manager (Mr T. B. Jackson) was thanked for his report, lt was stated that the next tournament would be held in Central Hawke's Bay. in part apprecfiation of the fino seryiees rendereu by the Sub-Union secretary (Mr C. Ai. Williamson) it waa unanimously resoived that he be votcd an kouorarium of £15 15/- for the past year. The chairman explained that it was not possible for the sub-union to repay adequately Mr Williamson for his exccllent work.
