Springboks' Visit
NON-RUGBYITE.
Sir. — -I kave wondered wliy the halfholiday was not altered for the Springboks' visit, but I have, been told that the unions demand the usual holiday in addition to any extras. If such is the case it is not to be expected that the retailers should be prepared to give away the extfa half day. What a pity the whole of Hawke's Bay cannot make a gala oceasion of the fnst visit for sixteen years and so do honour to a great country. It would have been good publicity for the Bay and helped to pnt us on the map and now, because of harassing awards, it is all going to be a half-pie affair with lots of disappointed employces. Not that I want to see any moro money in the coffers of such a miserable and parsimonious body as the Rugby Union, bnt I do consiider it would have been iine to have done tho job properly and honourcd South » 4
Afriea's ambassadors, even though a licking is indicated. What about a ispot of daj'liglit saving on the great day and starting all business at 7.30 a.m. and pusliing the stock sale aheud, too? Perhaps the retailers will reconsider their decision, — Yours, etc..
