179 Players Qualify For Major Event

% T. KURU IN LEAp • Tho Hawke's Bay amateur golf ehampionship and handi.cap tournament was eontinued this morning at the Napier Golf Club's links at Waiohiki. Th.e conditions were good, fine weather pxevailing and though the greens wero a little on the heavy side they firied out nicely. There was a pronouneed improvement "in. the performances of many of the leading players under the improved conditions, bnt for all that, 179 qualified for the majcv event. The second qualifying xonnd was played this morning and the leader proved to be W. T. Kuru with a xepeat performance of his 76 of yesterday afternoon, when the first xound was played. J. R. Hobbs and A. D. Morris were next on the list with 153 each. The first of tke eliminating rounds .was commenced this afternoon after the yarious competitors had been graded according to their performances in the qualifying xonnds. The first 16 qualified for the championship, the next 36 for the Waiohiki handicap and the xexnainder of the field were divided in •ighte for the various flights. The scores recorded in the qualifying xonnds, together with an indieation of the grading, are as f ollow; —
