PROVISION AT AUCKLAND .

AUCKLAND, Last Night. Plans for a temporary base for Pan- , American Airways in Auckland were provisionally approved by tho Auckland Harbour Board at a meeting in committee after the immediate requirements oi the company had been explained by Mr. Harold Gatty, special representative oi Pan-American interests in New Zealand and Australia. The board is willing to lease to PanAmerican Airways for fi.vc years an area of land I50ft. by 100ft. adjacent to the breastwork near the~sh?ore end oi the eastern breakwatcr in Mechanies' Bay and to inake available an area oi clear water space 500ft. vride immediately inside the breakwater. The proposals will be submitted by Mr. Gatty to his principals in the United States. The chairman of tho board, Hon. T. Bloodworth, said it was hoped the matter would be finalised at a meeting of the board to be held next Tuesday. It was explained by Mr. Bloodworth that Mr. Gatty had indicated the aceommodation that was reqiiired and had pointed out that the present requirements would be temporary only. He had said that nothing in the nature of permanent aCcommodation would b6 necessary for -probably five years, by which time it was hoped the service would be stabilised and tho company would bo in a position more clearly to indicate its requirements for permanent accommodation. Mr. Gatty desired that the arrangoments should be made as soon as possible, Mr. Bloodworth added, and "with that in view the board met and discussed the details with him. *'
