BRIGHT SELLING
Store Cattle Predominate At Waipukurau FEW FAT LINES An exceptionally bright and sound market ruled for store cattle at the Waipukurau sale to-day, when a large yarding was oifered. There was a large attendance which included a big number of outside buyers. A surprise feature of the selling was that a big percentage of the offering was sold locally, the outside buyers iinding values well above their limit. With the exception of two or three lines, the offering was made by the Hawke 's Bay Faroaers Co-op. Assn., Ltd. The yarding included several well bred station lines of steers of all ages. The vendors included Oakburn Station, Messrs. J. E. Knapp, Tikokino, H. Judd, Wanstead, A. Judd, Wanstead, A. W. Elliott, C. E. Edgecombe, and Mrs. S. A. Limpns. Offerings also came forward from Whakarara and Onga Onga. The market excpeded expectations and was deseribed by all interested as being a great sale. Many of the entries were in light condition but those showing breeding would develop readily with the spring growth of feed. Threeyear steers comprised a big percentage of the yarding and the best in -good store order and well bred made £10, with a few lines in forward order rising to £10 10/-. Good 2-year steers made £8 4/-, with small grown lines making dear buying at £7 10/-. The top price for yearling Aberdeen Angus steers made £6 13/-. Good cnedium grown entries made £6 2/-, while small grown pens, hard wintered, were sold at £4 17/-, at which figure they made a good sale. Only two good lines of yearling heifers were ofPered which made to £4 7/-. Competition remains very keen and widespread, with bidding very spirited. Yery few fat cattle were offered, while the slieep pens were deserted. Eealisations were as under :-r-' STORE CATTLE On account of Oakburn Station, 48, well bred and fairly grown yearling Aberdeen-Angus steers, in medium order, being hardy and sturdy, sold at £6 13/-. * In from Whakarara, 25 fairly grown Aberdeen Angus-Hereford cross bullocks, in good store condition, having come through the winter well and sliould finisb readily, met the market at £10. On account of Mr A. W.Elliott, Farm road, 33 fairly grown clean bred Aberdeen Angus bullocks in good store condition, the tops being qnite forward, the entry being usefu] tliroughout and ready for finisliing, sold at £9 18/-. In from Ongaonga 26 Hereford cross yearling steers, in light condition, and uneven in size, made a good sale at -e* 18/-
Wintered on hard country, 99 medium grown dekorned 2-year Hereford steers, the tops being in fair order, witb the balance _ ratker poor in condition, sold at £8 2/6. In from Whakarara, a line of 30 small grpwn yearling Hereford steers, in light condition but quite sound, brougkt £5 14/-. On account of Mrs A. S. Limpus, 92 well bred 3-y.ear Aberdeen Angus steers laiily grown and in quite good store condition met tlie market at £10. These steers wlidcli contined Akitio blood were good qiudity and shonld finisli in excellent order. In from porangahau a line of' 30 Aberdeen Angus-Hereford 3-year steers, in medium to good stor© condition, witli a few small grown, sold at £9 12/-. In froin Whakarara, 48 fairly grown clean bred dehorned Hereford steers, liaving wintered fairly well on hard country, in good medium store order, realised £8 17/-. From behind Ormondville, 50 medium grown dehorned Hereford-Shorthorn cross 2-yr steers, in light condition. showing the effects of a hard winter, but quite hardy, sold at £7 16/-. In from Omakere, a line of medinm grown Aberdeen Angus-Hereford cross yearling steers, in good order, sold at £6 2/-. In from Te Uro, 38 small grown Aber-deen-Angus cross steers, in light order, sold well at £7 10/-. In from Whakarara, 39' small grown Aberdeen Angus-Hereford cross steers. having been hard wintered, and in light order, sold well it £5 8/-. On account of Mr A. Judd, Wanstead. 23 fat aud forward fairly grown 3-yr Aberdeen Angus steers in attractiv© order, met with keen competition to realise £10 10/-. A line of 43 dehorned 2-yr Hereford steers, small grown and backward, having been hard wintered, were slow to trade, being passed at £6 18/-. In from Whakarara, 24 dehorned medium to fairly framed 3-yr Hereford steers, in quite good store coudition. sold at £9 12/6. In from Ongaonga, 40 medium grown Aberdeen Angus yearling heifers, a few showing a Hereford cross, were passed at the good figure of £4 2/6 In very low condition, 33 niixed bred bullocks brought £8 10/-. On account of Mr II. Judd, Wanstead, 30 well grown 3-yr Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cross steers, in fat and forward order, met tho market at £10 8/-.
