Jwo Visiting Teams At Napier INTERESTING PLAY Under ordinary circumstances all hockey matches on Saturday last would have been postponed, but tbe presence o£ a ladies team from, Hamilton and a senior men's team from Gisbotno, caused the decision to ,proceed with these games though the ground on . Nelson Park, Napier, was not conducive to good hockey. There was very little rain, however, merely a slight drizzle occasionally. A third intesr-club game was to have been played between Kiwi (Napier) And a Wellington team, but on Friday night the latter notified Kiwi of their inability to get, tbeir team away for Saturday. 1 - Those spectators wbo braved the elements witnessed two very good gamea, fast and open notwithstandiiig the sodden state of the ground. Scinde v. Gisborne. Scinde (Napier) met a Gisborne team, which with two women short, was reinforced by two Kiwi players. The visitors proved themselves to be a very powerful combination, and in addition to a good set of forwards they showed that they were partioularly strong in the back division. Both siaes showed great skill at intercepting, and at cutting-in attd taking the ball away from an 'opposing player. The first lialf Was very even and Scinde drew first blood, Dolbel getting one in the net after the ball had been stopped by tbe goalie but before it bad been cleared. Shortly afterwards Gisborne equalled. In tbe second spell , Gisborne liad a good dea-1 tbe best bf the play ahd ran tbeir score up to five goals, wiuning by' five goals to one, Goals for the winners were hit by Badham, Nicol, Schollum, Butler and.Mafsliall, while Dolbel shot' Scinde's only goal. Messrs R. J. McCutteheon and li Dadson refereed. Te Awa v. Hamilton As the two opposing teams had each won tbe ladies' seuiior cliampionship in tbeir own association district, the game was matcbed with keen interest. The Hamilton girls wero a lighter than Te Awa, and were very fast, and their stick work was good. Tbeir defence, however, was not equal to that of Te Awa-, who were able to withstand the fast runs of the Hamilton girls. •Te Awa's combined play was better, and tliey jvere always dangerous wben m the circle, and being well supported by the backs they were able to put . on four goals to Hamilton' s* one, though Hamilton came v.ery mear scoring on two other occasions'. This game was played in a fine sporting spirit, Misses G. Redshaw, M. Simmonds, P Alderson- and B, Daniiells scored for Te Awa, Miss B. Aitken scoring the only goal for Hamilton. Mr R. Vercoe refereed. The two visiting teams ' were the guests of honour at a very enjoyable dance given by the Pirates Football Ulub in the evening.
