WHAT IS BIOCHEMISTRY?
Address By Sister Evans Speaking at the Ritz Tea-rooms on Friday night to an appreciative audlence, Sister Evans said that the word "Bio" was derived from the Greek word "Bios," meaning life; therefore Bioehemistry was the chemistry of life. The spealrer continued: "I want to make some remarks with regard to the essentials in regaining and maintaining good health. An analysis of the blood shows it to contain organie and inorganic matter, which is eonstantly being built into the human structure. Being small in quantity the cell salts have been -thought to be of little importance, but now it is known they are the vital portion of the body. Should a deficiency occur in ono or more of these workers some abnonnal or "diseased" conditions arise, and according as they manifest themselves in diflierent ways and in diiferent parts of the body, they have bfeen given various names. "Every disease which afflicts humanity is due, in the first place, to a laclc.of one Or more of these inorganic cell salts. Health and strength can be maintained only- so long as the systera is properly suppiied with these celJworlters or tissue-builders Dr. Schuessler says, 'The inorgaliic substances in the blood and, tissues are suffieient to heal all diseases which are curable at all.' Bioehemistry seoks to ascertain what salts of the blood are lacking and supply them in just the form needed; any disturbance in the motion of these cell salts in living tissues, constituting disease, can be rectiiied and the equilibrium re-established by administering the same salts in small quantities. "Pain not a disease in itself, but a true indication of a disturbance in one or more of the inorganic salts. Pain in this sense is not an evil, but a blessing in disguise, calling for a supply of the material which is deficient in the organism.. A worm boring the trunk of a tree can easily bo de* stroyed because its work can be seen, but if it wofks at the root the evil is aecomplished before its presenCe bo* eomes known." Bister Evans will not be giving any further leetures but will remain in Hastings to conduct a Radiani health class.
