1 6-NiI Victory Against St. Pat's. FINE FORWARD PLAY

WAIPAWA, Sept. 5. Although arrangements had been made for reception at the ground of the broadcast of the second Test, there was only a moderate attendance at Coronation Park, Waipawa, on Saturday afternoon to witness the annual match between To Aute College and St. Pat's (Wellington). Te Aute scored a decisive win by 16 points to nil, the whole of the score being put up in the first spell, when the Te Aute forwards dominated the play and gave a fir.st-class exhibition of good, solid rucking combined with some good back play. Xight rain f ell for tne greaier part of the afternoon, the field being in excellent condition, but the ball being -very difficult ' to handle, particularly in the second half. The Te Aute f orwards played a fine bustling. game from tho commencement, although they appcared to slaclc off in the second spell. The teams were as follow: — Te Aute (maroon) : Rota, Kea, Whaanga, Kopae, Mataira, Murray, Kaanga, Marsden, Wanoa, . Rangi, Karaka, Tou, Haimona, Kaureti, Rangawhenua. St. Patricks (blue): Quill, Kelly, Parker, Whitehouse, Williams, O'Connor, Moonev, Plant, O'Loughlin, Scanbury, Gardner, Carty, Sheehan, Butler, Hughes. Blue kicked off and Te Aute started a rush which carried them downfield for Kaureti to score, the major points being added by Murray. Te Aute 5, St. Pat's 0. From the kick off Te Aute again carried the ball to the blue line but a free kick rolieved. Te Aute seeured and again attacked, Quill finding the 'line.. The blue f orwards were then on the attack, play returning to halfway, but a fine kick by Whaanga saw Te Aute again within a few yards of the blue line. From a scrum a passing rush was started by Te Aute but spoilt by a forward pass. From a further scrum the ball came to Te Aute and a force-down by-blue followcd. The blue were on the attack from the kick by Quill but a penalty to Te Aute saw the opening of a passing rush from which Whaanga scored, the kick being unsuccessful. Te Aute 8, St. Pat's 0. A free kick by blue was well taken by Kota who again found the line weil down. A free kick gave Quill a chance at goal but the kick fell short and Whaanga found the line. From the line-out blue went on attack with \ Williams cutting through and a spec- j I ulator kick by Williams took play well | into Te Aute 25 and a force-down fol- I iowed. Following a spell of play in midfield Kaureti scored and Murray j converted. Te Aute 13, St. Pat's nil. j Play in the centre of the field was ! bi'oken up when a long kick took Te Aute into the blue 25, the ball, however, rolling out of play. From the kick-off Te Aute seeured and went right to the blue line and Whaanga scored, the kick missing. Half -time score, Te Aute 16, St. Pat's nil. With tho start of the second spell, | The play lacked the dash which had characterised it in the first half and the ball was evidently hard to handle. An attempt at goal from a free kick was unsuecesaful, and a force-down resulted shortly afterwards. Blue again rallied to the attack and play was back in Te Aute 25, Kota finding the line. A good' movement* by Kaanga and Kopae put red within striking distance but from a ' scrum blue went avray and a free kick; saw them in red territory. A further ; free kick and blue wero in Te Aute 's • j 25, but Kota again saved with a kick to halfway where play remained iot some time. Final whistle found the Te Aute forwards attacking strongiyi Mr. G. Voyce was referee. In the curtain raiser the Waipawa TJnited juniors defeated Takapau juniors by three points to nil. The try came from a drlbbiing rush started by Collett and Martin which resulted in a scrum from which Grant seeured and scored. Mr. E. Moore was referee.
