Dunedin Voices Protest ONE PRODUCER VOICES PRAISE
(By Telegraplj-
DUNEDIN, Last Night. A representative meeting of dairy produeers passed substantially the same resolution as Southland on the guaranteed prices, nrging the Government to rcconsider the question, An exception to tho general criticism was Mr. W. W. Lee, of Goodwood, who said that the price fixed this yeiar was the best assistance dairymen had ever had from any Government. He was not enamoured of Government control of any industry, but it would take j much persuasion to induce him to vote the industry out of the arrangement proposed by tho Government. After all, a man's faith was shown by his works, and already there were incReations of a considerable rise in the price of dairy cows, which. was concrete evidence of what the rank and file of the industry thought. The resolution of protest was as follows : — "That this fully representative meeting of dairy produeers in Otago respectfully submits to the Government tiat, in the fixing of the prices to be paid for export hutter and cheese for ihe current season, due allo-wance was not given to The following cconsiderations specified in the Primary Produ^ts Marketing Act: — . (1) The necessity in the public interest of maintaining the stability and efiiciency of the dairy industry. "(2) The costs involYed in tfie efficient production of daity prbduce, "(3) The general standard of living of persops engaged in thp dairy industry in comparison with the general standard of living thrqughoiit New Zealand, "We strongly urge the Government to reconsidur the' question and givo effect to its guaranteed price policy as above quoted "
