Ia spite of th'e higher wages being paid to miners, the Soutli Wales coal industry earned a proflt of £78,298, equal to 2d per ton, in the three months onded July 21, comparod with a loss of £182.0uG for the same poriod laat ypar. Highor Avages paid to workmen increased tho cost of production by roughly lOd a ton.
