MRS. AGNES WINTER
Following a lengthy illness, the death occurred on Wednesday evening at thet Wairoa Hospital of one of Wairoa 's oldest residents. Deceased was 86 years of age, and had lived in the Wairoa district for 55- years. Born in the county of Armagh, Ireland, the late Mrs. Winter came to New Zealand as a young woman and settled in Wairoa, where she had resided all the intervening years. Of a warm and generous nature and ckaracteristic Irish open heartedness, she soon established herself in the affections of the older generation of Wairoa people, among whom in recent years she was almost the oldest survivor. . 1 In the earlier years of residence in the district, the late Mrs. Winter acquired a wide knowledge of its topograpli as well as of its personalities, and her assistance was always Teaching out to newcomers. She took a keen interest in the work of the Catholic Church, and was, during her long years; a promineut member oi the Wairoa parisli. Deceased is survevid by her husband, Mr. Edward Winter, two daughters (Misses Agnes and Margaret Winter) and one son (Mr. Ernest Winter), all residing in Wairoa, and wlio have the sincere synipathy of the whole of the district.
