RESTRAINED TRADING

Potatoes Cheaper in South

(By Telegrapli-

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. ,The grain and produce markets continue quiet with only restrained trading In any section. Potatoes are still ,the chief interest, but the position appears to have depreciated since the beginning of the wreek. Auckland reports state that sujiplies there are scarce and that the price is high, but it is diflicult to account for this statement in view of the fairly substantial shipinents that havo been made north reeently. Potatoes are being offered in good quantities frqm tho country, but at present few buycrs are available. There aro practically no orders from the North l'sland and trade is not disposed to take undue risks at this late stago of the season. Reports from outports indicate a very dull demand. The price here is . nominalty £S on trucks, but there is liltle activity. Gats are weak with very littie enquiry an'd chaif extremely dull. There are indications that the spring rovival of interest in the small seeffs trade has begun to appear, but the volume of trade at present is confin«d to local retail orders.
