The first round for the Lane Cup coxnmences to-morrow when thef maia, attraction to be played at Nelson Park^ Hastings, will undoubtably be between M.A.C| and Technical Old Boys, eonimencing at 3 p.m. Great interest will be taken in this game as the Maori'3 who were runners-up in the combined competition and having been showing sparkling football this season will be keen to win this cup. Technical Old Boys have been dodged by bad luck in some of their defeats and will be equally ;eager to lower the colours of the Maoris. When these two teams rnet in the first round the margm to M.A.C. was very small and to-morrow 's encounter should be a thrilling game between two evenly-matched teams. On the adjoining area the two local teams, Hastings Old Boys and Celtic, elasli. Both of these teams are capable of giving a good exhibition o.f the open game, and an evenly-contested uiatch can be expected with the result in dobt to the final whistle. For the early arrivals on No. 1 ground at 1.30 the final of the Hastings section for the Swain Cup will be between Hastings Old Boys and Haumoana, and on No. 2 ground the final of the third grade between Havelock North and Hastings Old Boys. Provisions have been made for a loud-speaker to keep the public in touch with results as they come to hand of the second Test, New Zealand v. tSpringboks.
