Opening Ceremony at Auckland

BLENHEIM, Last Night. Equipped with radio in every room and incorporating all' the latest features of modern scliool architecture, Blenheim's new primary scliool was opened tliis afternoon by the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, in the presenee of a large gathering, including the Director of Education, Mr N. T. Lambourn, and the chairman of the Welliugtou Education Board, Mf W. V. Dyer. Associated with) this ceremony, there began to-day a series of funqtions in qonneotion with observance of the 78th anniversary of the establishment of the school. In connection^vith these ceiebrations, there are visiting the town some 2Q0 past pupils from as far Nortb as Auckland, Among those present to-day was an elderly woman who was one of the school's first pupils. 'Ihe new school, whigli is just over L0Q yards long and 0110 clgssrQQm cjeep, is of the semi-opeti-air type, each classroora having wide i'oldiug doors opening on tq the verandafi facing due nortb, running the entire lpngth of tlie structure. The inpst niodern scliool in tlie Wellington education district, it is virtually unique in its layout, while its airy and colourful appearanee constitutes an ideal environment in marked gontrast tQ the prison-hke brick structure it supersecles.
