Mrs Jordan Launches The Kakapo FIRST OF TWELVE

(Received 2 12.5 p.m.) LCNDON, Sept. 1. The cargo ehip Kakapo, one of a series of 12 being built in Scotland for the tJniou Steam Ship Co. of New Zealaod, was launehed to-day on the Clyde by Mrs W. J. Jordan, wife of the New Zealanu High Commissioner. Of '2300 tons gross, the Kakapo is fltted with a single screw and tripleexpansion engines, and will have an uveraga speed of 11 knots. In replying to the toast of New Zealand at a luncheon after the launehing, Mr Jordan said that in the last mne years 27 ships aggregating 235,000 tons had been built for the three principal companies tradipg between England and New Zeal&nd. Mr aud Mrs Jordan in the afternoon visited the Lord Provost of Glasgow ancl later inspected the site of the New Zealand exhibit at the Scottish Empire Exhibitiou.
