Mr. Christie's Speech

AJAX.

Sir, — I see that Mr Aroh Lowe upholds Mr Cliristie's false assertion that the coal industry in England has been nationalised by the Conservative Government. He asserts that this should be "common knowledge", whereas it is not correct. The Conservative Government Jias expressed sympathy with the proposal to "unify" mining royalties, and inquiries have been made with a view to buying out the royalty receivers. This is a very \il\erent thing from nationalising the mines. Nationalisation was definitely turned down by the Royal Commmission in 1926, as it "was unworkable and presented no advantage that could not be secured in other ways." Mr Lowe can await the British newspapers for several rnails before he can prove this "mare's nest" of "nationalisation of tho mines." — Yours. etc..
