REGENT THEATRE

"A STAB IS BOBN." "A Star js Born," which screens tonight, is a film which can be honestly recommended for its brilliant portrayal of the rise from obscurity to fame of a young country girl with ambition. The handling of this somewhat stereotyped subject is entirely novel, and the film is remarkable for the ability of its actors, and its moving portrayal of the joys and sorrows, the exultation and pothos which mark the life of the great. It is a refreshingly new Janet Gaynor who is presented in this picture — a Janet Gaynor who sparkles with life and sincerity. Praise must be given to Adophe Menjou as a producer, to 1 Fredric March, v ho gives an excellent j portrayal of the one-time idol, now j fallen, and, finally, to May Robson, who adds greatly to the humour and sincerity of the film. The eupporting programme includes a New Zealand Government ehort subject, "Regained Horizon." !
