LONDON, Aug. 4. Mr. Anthony - Faltker, European agenfc for the AmerieAU Douglas airliners and a famous airplane donstructor lilmself, is planning to havo thirty^ seater Douglas airplanes floWn across the Atlantic for delivery to air lines here. . Tlio Swissair Company will provide tho pilots to fly the 'planes from Ncwi'oundlahd to Croydon. Spccial big range fuel ianks will be i'ittcd to tho Dougles D.0.3 for tho long Atlantic sea crossing. Tho tanks will bo removed on arrival in Europe, at onee returned to Now York by ship, then installed in the ncxt Douglas td be bi'ought over.. Ib has been found cheaper to fly these large airliners across the Atlantic than to ship them even after msurance for the flight and the cost of the extra tanks has been paid for. As transport 'planes have grown in size the|i have become increasingly difficult. to ship beeause of the great length of the fuselage, which cannot be dismantled. It is only possible to dismantle part of the wings and tail. ! 'Planes, therefore, have to be ship- . pcd as deelc cargo, and only the i largest liners can earry them. Before j Tiunc:! uro crated every nietallic part iias to be coated with lieavy greaso to ! prevcnt corrosion from sea water and ] the salt air.
