WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The Hawke's Bay provincial district exeeutive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union met in the Oddfcllows' Haij, Waipukurau, this afternoon, Mr C. R. Edgecombe preisiding ov§r Messrs Kirk; hanV (hastings), D. Eddy (Tikqlfinp), A. W. Butt (Matapiro), !)• Ritehie (Omakere), C. R. White (Bqiika'^ya), It. E. 'lalbot (Hastings), G-. F. Kennedy (Hatuma) and J. B.' H. 'Priest (Hastings). A remit froxn Ongaonga asking that the provisiqnal spcretary shquld bq written tp and requested to' have the sheaiers' award rqconsidered if this wero possible was the subject" of a Short discussion. The chairman made it clear fhat the " Farmers' Union had no power to 4° anything in this regard as "it was not a registered industrial body. When it was suggested that it might' be to the advantage of the union t'o get itself registered as an industrial body, "Mr Edgecombe pointed out that it was now too late to send a remit to that effect to thq Dominion exeeutive meeting, but they could pqrhaps get Mr J. E. Benspn, of Bovprty Bay, who would bp going there, to bring the matter up in the general business session. It was pointed out in the discussion that the shqarers had achieved a highpr rate of pay than they had really hoped for, a good man being capable qf earniug up to £25 per week on the new scale. "And asking for time off to collect his 'dole' on Thursday, " commented Mr Ritchie. Qther speakers estimated that shearing was going to cqst np to £4 a hundred. "That all books of 'agricultural intcres't should Be reviewcd by the union 's official organ, 'Point Biahk,' fbr the guidance of farmers generally and that a list of authentie arid use'ful books be published in that journal from time to time'' was the text of a further rqmit from : Ongaonga. The chairman commented thatpthis was a matter for the journal itsejf to consider. It was .decided to senid the remit on.
