Sensational Rise in Fat Ewe Market BIDS GO TO 44/4 A sensational rise of fully 6/- a head to-ok place for fat ewes at to-day 's market at Stortford Lodge, when values reached to 44/4 a- head. To-day 's values are stated to be the highest recorded in the yards for many years. The yarding was one of the smallest known, and. butchers keenly competed with eaeh other in order to make purchases from the few pens submitted. Tlie yarding was very much beiow normal requiTements, and prices soared even for the poorest quality. The keenness of the bidding cfin be gauged from the following prices for selected pens: — Qn account of Mr. G. C. Glenny, Haumoana, a pen of heavy prime ewes, carrymg a good fleece, topped the market at 44/4. An entry of 48 small to mediumgrown woolly hoggets, in medium order, sold at 26/9. A sirigle extra heavy, prime, handreared two-tooth ewe, realised 45/-. A line of heavy prime ewes, averaging barely 601bs., sold at 43/9. On account of Mr. W. Kinross- Whito, Omarunui/ an entry of* heavy, prime ewes, well woolled, brought 41/2. On account of Mr. P. C. Holmes, an entry of heavy, ' wcll-woolled ewes sold at 42/9J . ' . . A. small entry of prime two-tootli ewes, well woolled, brought 41/9.
