RESERVE FUND NEEDED

Protection for Taxpayers "It is essential that the Government should begin to. create a reserve ia iti Dairy Account," said Mr W. E. Lewisham, formerly a prominent Aucklaad exporter of dairy produce. He expressed the view that it would be disastrous for the Dominion if the dairying industry ever began to lean upon the taxpayer for itsi support. It was a major industry, and in the past had made an enormous contribution to New Zealand's prosperity. If it ceased to stand on its own feefc it could no longer be regarded as a major industry, and the burden of supporting it would be too great for the taxpayer tO bear. "We are enjoying favourable exporfc conditions, and it is at such a time that a reserve shouid be created," said Mr Lewisham, "to meet the position when prices fall. That is yital to the success of the scheme."
