(Received 1, 8,45 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 30. The points decision awarded Joe Louis against Tommy Farr in thejr bout for the world heavyweight hoxing championship was unanimous but most unpopular, 35,000 spectators booing for a long time after the announcement. The United Press Association 's boxing correspondent says that Farr gave Louis the most amazing battle of the negro 's career with the exeeption of the knoekout by Schineling. The New York Times boxing critic says: "Louis retained the championship but caught a Tartar. Farr eonfounded the critics and befuddled Louis, whose hitting was neutfalised if not altogether nullified. He stood up under the battering blows of a knoekout artist and fought baci savagely, furionsly and siometimesi contemptuously against tremendous odds," The North American Newspjapef Allianee's boxing correspondent says: "Farr stole the show and fought back, though reeling glassy-eyed ,in tke closing rounds ,winning yells Of admiration from the erowd. His gameness was enormous. He came in and fought his best from start to finish." The unexpectedness of the result was emphasised by the betting. Louis entered the ring at strong odds, and some bettors even considered that ke would win on a knoek-out before the sixtk round. The consensus of opinion 'among experts is that Farr is a much abler and gainer fighter than anybody realised, but his fatal weakness is lack of sufficient power in his punches to score a knock-out. Louis received a eontusion on the third knuckle of the righ thand in the third round and the knuckles were left swollen. The injury to his right is virtually certain to prevent the match with Schmeling in October, although there was no officiai announcement. After the bout Louis said: "I would have knocked him out if I had not hurt my hand." His trainer said: 'Farr ean't kit. He did not hurt Louis once. He was hard to hit ,because he kept pulliag away. ' ' Farr said: "Louis hits harder than anyone I have ever met. I ^vould like to fight him again, but do not care much. I will let the American people judge if I should have won the title,"
