Arrangements for Meeting

WAIPUKURAU, Aug. 31. At a recent meeting of the committee of the Makaretu Sports Club, held in the club's ofiice, Makaretu, there were present, Messrs C. Thomsen (in the chair), 0.. W. Johansen, W. B. Cook (viee-presidents), A. E. Pedersen, Viggo Pedersen, A. A. Pedersen, A. Walker, D. Howse, A. 11. Jensen, W. Thomsen, G. Johansen, J. S. Brinson, P. Durham, G. Severinsen, F. Thomsen, R. lleid and G. Reg Cook, acting for the secretary. An apology was received from Mrs D. M. Cook, secretary, who was indisposed. Members expressed the hope that she would soon recover. Letters offex'ing donatioixs Avere received from the following members:— Mr Hugh White, £3 3/- to horse section ; Mrs M. M. A'Deaiie, £1 1/to pony jump ; W. B. Cook, £2 2/-, O. W. Johansen, 30/- aixd C. llosva.ll, £1 towards prize fund. On tlie chairman's motion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the president, Mr liugh W. White, for his dona,tion of £3 3/-. In seconding this proposition Mr A. Pedersen advised that Mr White and his sons wished to co-opera.te with the committee in every way possible and would make available any of their plant that may be required for re-laying the racing tracks. It was also decided that the secretary forward a letter of thanks to those members who kindly promised or forwarded. donations to the club. On the chairman's motion, seconded by Mr V. Pedersen, it was resolved that the Makaretu School Committee be voted a doxxation of £1 1/- to bo paid after the sports meeting. Messrs O. H. Bjorngaard, Reg. Rosvall, Percy Rosvall and H. Pedersen were elected to membership. It was resolved tliat the secretqry (Mr D(. M. Cook) and the treasurer (Mr Chas. Thomsen) be given authority to operate on the bank account. Accounts totalling £17/5 were passed for payment. Programme of Sports^ Subject t.o suitable arrangements being made it was resolved that- the following sections be provided for the next sports meeting: — Amateur athletic section, cycling section, axemen's section, horse section, dancing section, greyhound racing, sheep dog trials, novelty section such as motor events, chain-stepping, t.ossing the sheaf, boxing section, sheep-guessing compe.titions. Side shows are to be admitted at a fee to be arranged. The mattcr of catering rigdxts was left to t^e secretary's hands. The secretary was also authorised to arrange for musio and aixncti cing, provided the cost does noi exceed £5 5/-, Mr Bell, of Ongaonga, to be invited to act as microphone operator. It was decided that a dance be held in the Ashley Clinton Hall on the evening following the sports. Officials Appointed. The following officials were appointed :— Axemen's events: — Judges, Messrs W. A.A.A. to be asked to supply officials. Horse section — Judge, Mr A. Ayres ; chief steward, Mr F. Thomsen; stewards, Messrs McKay, G. Robinson, L. White, and F. White ; measuring and weighing steward, Mr G. Robinson. Dancing section. — Judge, to be appointed ; steward, Mr T. Morrison. Greyhound racing section. — Judge, Mr R. Reid ; starter, Mr G. Steele ; timekeeper, Mr J. W. Watkins ; chief steward, Mr G. Severinsen; stewards, Messrs A. Walker and E. A. Pedersen. Sheep dog trials. — Judge, Mr N. Tilley; timekeeper, Mr L. Manson ;^ flag steward, Mr W. J. Smith ; chief steward, Mr A. A. Pedersen; stewards, Messrs M. Hall and A. Reid. Boxing section. — Members of subcentre of the Waipukurau A. and P.
