'QUAKE RECONSTRUCTION

Very Satisfactory Position In Hastings "It is very pleasing to the council, and I am sure to people generally, that Hastings has been almost wholly reconstructed strueturally following the damage done in the earthquake of February, 1931," said the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, yesterday to members of the Hastings Chamber of Comnteree, when referring to earthquake reconstruction in the borough. "I consider that the position is indicative of the progressive spirit of our people, aiid of the general development and the prosperity of this district. ' ' Of the total number, '208, of temporary building permits issued, there remaiued only approxisiately 10 cases to be dealt -with, and these presented rather pCculiar difficulties. He hoped that within the next twelve months that a satisfactory settlement would be reached, so that permanent struetures could be erected in these reinaining cases.
