Historical Society's Essay Competition BAY VIEW INSTITUTE WINS The prizes won • in the competition conducted by the Hastings Historical Society for essays cn tbe history of places iu Hawke's Bay were presented at the society's meeting last evening by tho president of the society, the Rt. .Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa. Eutries Ih the competition were received from 23 women' s institutes in the province, and Bishop Bennett said that it was hoped at some time to make use of the material available for publication in book form, The first prize was awarded to ""th* Bav View Institute for the form and matter of tho essay and for Ihe historical clata it contained. The prize of a cheque for two guineas was handed to the president of tho instituta, who returned thanks. Tlie seeond prize went to the Putorino Womeu's Institute, Bishop Bennett mentionecT that ho hoped to get an address hy Sir Apira11a Ngata on Maori piace names ronnd Hawke's Bay for t.he September meeting of the society.
