REGENT THEATRE

"A STAR IS BORN.' "A Star is Born," which screens tonight, is a film which can be honestly recommended for its brilliant portrayal of the rise from obscurity to fame of a young country girl with ambition. The handling of this somewhat stereotyped subject is entirely novel, and the film is remarkable for the ability of its actors, and its moving portrayal of the joys and sorrows, the exultation and pothos which mark the life of the great. It is a refreshingly new Janet Gaynor who is presented in this picture— a Janet Gaynor who sparkles with life and sincerity. Praise must bo given to Adophe Menjou as a producer, to Fredric March, v ho gives an- exeellent portrayal of the one-time idol, now fallen, and, finally, to May Robson, who adds greatly to the humour and sincerity of the film. As the title indicates, the picture portrays the rise of a little country girl to Flollywood stardom. in the picture the audience shares with Esthor Blodgett, portrayed bv Miss Gay nor, the hoartaches and happiness. the gaietv and despair, that go into the ultimate crowning of a motion picture star. And in her travels she visits many of the famous spot-s in ^Houywood which are shown in technicolour for the first time.
