Auckland Unemployed and Government

AUCKLAND, Aug. 28. A motion of no-confidence in the Government 's unemployment relief activities was passed by about 50 members of the Auckland Hetropolitan Unemployed Association at a meeting held in St. Alban's Hall, Brixton Toad. The Rev. A. J. Greenwood presided. The motion read as follows: — "That this meeting passe3 a vote of no-confidence in the Government 's "That this aireiiog passes a vota of no-confidence in tho Government' s present pouey t. v ards the unemployed and thrir dependents in relation to its administration of unemployment relief funds; that it condemns the four-monthly scheme, subsidised woras and the State Placement Service; that it is of the opinion that the unemployinent funds should be distributed evenly among the unemployed as a whole; that this meeting expresses no confidence in the Government's policy in regiard to invalid, old-age and returned soldiers' pensions, payments to people on charitable aid work and all those not receiving an adequate wage. "Further, this meeting is convinced that the national health insurance 6cheme is a 'red herring' to bo used as a bait at the next election and that it theroughly disapproves of the systdm used in inquiring into the cohdition of the unemployed."
