REGENT THEATRE

'A STAR IS BORN." "A Star is Born," which screens tonight, is a film which can be honestly recommonded for its brilliant porfrayhl of the rise from obscurity to fame of «a young country girl with nmbition. The handling of this somewhat stereotyped subject is entirely novel, and the film is remarlcable for the ability of its aCtors, and its moving portrqyal of the joys and sorrows, the exultation ahd pothos which mark the life of the great. It is a refreshingly new Jauet Gaynor who is presented in this picture — a Janet Gaynor who sparkles with life and sincerity. Praise must be gxven to Adophe Menjou as a produeer, to Fredric March, v ho gives an exeellent portrayal of the one-time idol, jxow fallen, ahd, finally, to May Robson, who adds greatly to the humour and sincerity of the film, As the title 'indicates, the picture portrays the rise of a lxitle country girl to Hollywood starddm. In the picture the audience shares with Esthor Blodgett, portrayed by Miss Qay nor, the heartaches ahd happiness, the gaiety and despair, that go into' the ultimate qrowning of a motion picture star. And in her travels she visits many of the famous spots in Hodyvood, which are shown in technieoiour for the first time. The sqpporting programrae includes "March of Time" (No 5) and "Mickey's Circus," the latest Walt Dsiney cartoon.
