The chief dish on the hockey menu was a men's senior representative match between teams representing Wairoa and Napier. It was a game well worth going to see. Both sides played bright, sparkling hockey, defending and following up well, in the latter respect Napier showing to greatest advantage. The pace was on from start to finish, and each side rallied from the other's attack and transferred play to the other end of the field. Napier pressed from the start, but were repuised, though only for a few minutes, for play had not been long in progress before Napier got an opportunity from a melee in the circle, and Matthews sent in a hot one which found the net. Wairoa then came to Bght with a strong counter-attack, and Napier were kept buay for a short time, in. defending their go.al. Some smart play in Napier'® goal mouth saw Carrington with a quick flick get a shot past the goalie*and even up the score. Up and • dowu the field the , ball travelled at a fast pace, McCutcheon missing a certain goal at one stage by over-running the ball and dashing into the goal-moutli, but without the balL However, his turn came shortly afterwards vwhen he neatly took a crossshot from Cassin and sent the ball into the net at the corner. The score at half -time. stood at 2 to 1 in Napier 'e favour. Th6 great pace which had characterised the first half was still .being maintained but the forwards of both teams wero beginning to feel the strain. A strong attack by Napier was intercepted and turned into. an attack by Wairoa, and in a brisk struggle in the goalmouth, the Napier goalie lost his stick, and Edwards was enabled to shoot a second goal for Wairoa and thus bring the scores even. This Was praCtically Wairoa 's last rally, for Napier forwards now began some very pretty passing movements, keeping the ball constantly on tlie move towards or in Wairoa territory. From one of these passing bouts Hill finished off the pass movement by notching a third goal for Napier, and later another similar movement, instituted by B. Best, who played a great game throughout went across to McCutcheon who landed his second goal, giving Napier a lead of two. No further score was Tegistered and the final whistle sounded with the score: Napier 4, Wairoa 2. Messrs R. Mardon. (Hastings) and B. Bees (Wairoa) refereed. Taradale and Tui Ladies The next greatest attraction was a game .between two ladies' teams, Taradale and Tui, which had tied for the junior ehampionship with nine points each and had to play-off the final of thta event, and also for possession of the Perry Banner, which goes with the ehampionship. The game was played at q fast pace throughout, and both teams showed great improvement since the beginning of the season. Tui, however, showed superior combination among the forward division, and were better in positional play and in. stick work, so thattheir ultimate victory was well doserved. It was a game which came second only to the representative match in interest and Tui's fast attacking movements gave them a lead of two to one at half time. Taradale evened soon after resuming, then Tui found the net again, and though tiring they kept up their attack and were in the Taradale circle when the final whistle sounded. It was a triumphant but very tired team that vented its feelings with a burst of hurrahs after they had received and returned the cheers of he other side. Misses M. Blewman and Lister played splendidly for Tui. ChampionsMps Decided Of the other games Napier won by default from Clive and Te Awa defeated Technical Old Girls by two goals to one in the senior ladies' section. These games practically decided all the championships for the season, Kiwi winning the men's senior ehampionship with Taradale second; Te Awa the senior ladies' ehampionship, with Napier second; Tui the junior ladies' with Taradale second; and Taradale A the men's junior, with Kiwi Blue second. ■ Details.
