BRIGHTON, Aug. 28. Against Sussex, the New Zealandera performed outstandingly against a team Eourth in the eounty ehampionship. Lowry 's clever management of the bowling and plaeing of the field, combined with the steadiness of the attack and smartness in fielding, yielded five wickets before lunch. Langridge, the former coach at Auckland, made a determined stand, and Parks and Griffiths, members of Holmes' team in New Zealand, also shaped well. The New Zealand bowlers, however, always held the whip. hand. Cowie, despite the strain of seven hard games in succession, bowled with great life, f our times hitting the stumps. Moloney bowled with a consistent length and persistent spin. Donnelly was respon- ' eible for a brilliant run out, while Hadlee made a fine catch at short square-leg. Enterprising batting soon gave the tourists a lead. Hadlee 's was a- fine exhibition of free strokes. He drove beautifully, and his innings included 11 fours and one six over the lunch marquee into an adjoining tennis courts. He attained his' four figures in firstclass matches, joining Wallace, Doin nelly, Moloney and Vivian. Kerr also was confident and aggressive, scoring quickly all round the wicket. His score included eight fours. He was dismissed through wonderfully fast stumping. Tate, despite his increasing weight and diminished pace, was easily the outstanding bowler. Wallace returned to the side, although his right thumb is still bandaged. Page, Weir,. Lamason, Gallichan and Carson are not playing. Scoresi— SUSSEX First Innings.
