MITCHELL FOR DUNEDIN
LEAVING SOUTHLAND SOON " " J ^ i N. A. Mitchell, New Zealand and Southland threequarter, has decided to go to Dunedin to live. Mr. H. S. Strang, one of the Southland selectors, made the announcement at the meeting of the Southland Rugby Union on Monday night. It was probable, said Mr. Strang that Mitchell would remain in Southland for another two months, but he intended leaving Invercargill at the latest before Christmas. Whether he would be available for Southland against the Springboks depended on the recovery of his leg injury. It will be a big pity if Mitchell is unable to play again this season, comrpents "Onlooker" in the Southland Times. His appearance against ihe Springboks, either for New Zealand or Southland, would give added interest to a tour which already has broken all records for interest and enthusiasm. Southlanders hope to see him - in action again, as they realise that he is one player in New Zealand fully capable of rising to the heighls reached in international play. The loss by his defection coming when it has, cannot be estimated. It is possible that Southland will field its strongest side against Canterbury at Christchurch on August 25. If E. R. Chesterman, W. L. Crawford and J. Hamilton are available, and-il Is possible they will be, they will bc invited to join the team for that game. And, of course, if Mitchell is iit, he will be asked to play.
