A suggestion that the scorefcoard at Lancaster Park, Christcljurcli, in the test matchi next week between New Zealand and South Africa should indicate the identity of players who scored points, as well as the number scored, was adopted by the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union. The suggestion was made by a correspondent whose letter said that its adoption wouid be muoli appreciated by the public. It was not needful to put up the player's namej hig programme number would be sufficient mdication. Mr A. I. An unfortunate mistake cost a Rotorua player, W. Hill, th$ distinction of heading the list of qualifiers in the Rotorua Golf Club's open chimpionship and also deprived him of his chance of winning the prize for the best gross score in- the qualifying round. Hill, with a card which would have placed him at the head of the list, played the last hole in four, only to find that in playing out of a bunker he had played a ball whioh apparently helonged to one of a trio of lady players practising on the last fairway. He had to concede the penalty of two for playing the wrong ball and replay, bringing his strokes at the last liole to eight instead of four. As a result Hill came down from first pqsition to sixth in the list of qualifiers. A Farming Loss. Members with a uent towards agriculture created a brief discussion at the annual general meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club last night on the outcome of the club's "farming activities" during the year, which shoived a loss of about £62. It was frankly admitted by one member of the spacial committee, which had been described as "Tlie Four Sliepherds" that the buying and selling of the sheep had not been at all profitable and that the "market had been missed badly." After Beveral i'armermembers liad mentioned a few points, a lawyer took a part in the discussion. He said that it was the only loss he had seen on any farming account during the past 12 months. "However, we may console ourselves,'' he said "with the thought that we won't have to pay income on it."
