Hawke's Bay Championships Decided SATISFACTORY FORM Good, hard straight wrestliug was provlded at the annual Hawke's Bay provincial amateur championships tournament held in Hastings last evening, There was a good attendance, and though the entries wero not. as numerous as antieipated, there wa#1 competition in practically every class. The standard was satisfactory and the entertainment was equally so, most of the bouts being exceptionally even and decided on points. The tournament was conducted by the Hastings and District Gymnasti.c Club on behalf of the Hawke's Bay Wrestling Association. The 1937-38 champions are ais follOw; — Bautamweight: J. Boyd. Featherweight: 0, Croucher. Lightweight: J. McCormick, Welterweights A. Skudder. Middleweighti P. Razos, Light-heavyweighti J. Stewart. Heavyweight; Jury Thompson. The results of the various contests were as followi— BANTAMWEIGHT. Final, J, Boyd (8.5) defeated K. Horsefleld (8.11) by a fall in the last round. FEATHRRWElGnx, Semi-final, C. Croucher (9,7) defeated C, Hawkes (9,4) on points, Final, 0. Croucher (9,7) defeated S, McDonald (9,6) on points, LIGHTWEIGHT. Semi-ffnal, J, McOormick (10.4) defeated VV. Whittakef (i0.4) on points. Final, J. McCormick (10.4) defeated N. Webby (10.4) on points, WELTEBWEIGHT, Final. A. Skudder (11.2) defcaten B. Franklin (11.4) by two falls to nil. MIDDLEWEIGHT. Final, P. Eazos (12.0) defoatcd .T. Stewart (12.2) oii points, LiGHT-HE A V YWEIQ HrJ\ Semi-final. . P. Kazos (12.0) defeated L. Hafftka (13.8) ^ the latter being incapacitated in the first round. Final, J. Stewart defeated P. Razos by default. HEAVYWEIGHT. Jury Thompson won without opposition. The oflieials for the tournament were as follow: — Referee, Mr G. Deakin; judges, Messrs J. L. Dunn, E. C. Little and J, Arrell; timekeeper, Mr C. O. Tong; weight-steward, Mr T. Naisbitt} programme director, Mr A. E. Mclvor.
