Plans for Italy 's new Imperial short* wave centre, Tecently approved by the ltalian Council of Ministers, include the enlarging of the well-known 2RO, inereasing the power of the present two transmitters from 25 to 40 kilowatts, and building two new 100-kilowatt transmitters and a 50-kilowatt resCrve transmitter. Each of the f our principal units will be able to work" on either of the two wave lengths, each carrying a separate programme, while the fifth (reserve) transmitter will be able to operate anywhere between 14 and 60 metres, either as a substitute for one of the four principal transmittrs or as a eompletely separate experimental station. The new antenna system, both directional and omni-direetional. will include fourteen lattice-work towers, some 240 feet kigh, while particular care will be given to'the beam array for ltalian East Africa.
